MY FIRST HEART BREAK [ PART 6]
Some few days to Valentine of 2007, we made arrangements for Misimi to come visit from FUTA. I had to send down the TP FARE, plus pocket money for her to flex on the journey. I was so much expectant and highly elated in anticipation of what would be unfolding in the few days to come. I used that opportunity to twitch my room a little bit.
Conventionally, I had magazine cut splattered all over the wall, this I had to remove and replace with a sexier wall paper and also tried to get some cheap artifacts, just to make my room presentable.
She left for Abk on Feb, 13 and it was like she should just appear IN 5 minutes. The journey seemed to me like it would never end. I would call to inquire about her location and she would be like, ‘ We still at Ikire…we still at Gbogan….we still at Ibadan ‘ All these just continued to get me hyperactive and hysterical. I was even at a point trying to tell her to tell the driver to increase his speed.
She eventually got here around 5 p. m and I must tell you, she looked so gorgeous. I just couldn’t hide my feelings, I hugged her right there on the street, despite being a very shy dude. She was so happy too to see me. But I must tell you, the problems started immediately she stepped into my room. Not that the room was bad. She only discovered that I had not made any meal for her. Oh, My bad, I thought to myself.
‘ How will you be expecting someone all the way from Akure, Dammy? And you couldn’t think it proper to get something done at least! ‘ She had changed her mood all of a sudden.
‘ Am sorry, I never knew what you would want …….’
‘ And you couldn’t ask? ‘ She furiously cut in.
‘ Am sorry, let me get you Malt Drink first and then we get something to cook’
‘ Don’t worry, I brought bread and Jam, you are so unromantic, hope you know?
The only thing I just continued to say was sorry. She even threatened that if it was not that it was dark already, she would have preferred to leave that same day. I just hoped she was joking as I would have not had the Charisma to pull her back if she ever did that.
She finally settled down and we now began to talk about her journey. She bought some items for me. A pair of singlets, boxers, perfume and a rose flower. It was at that moment I realised I had not even thought of buying her anything. I had never celebrated love in my life. To avoid issues, I just promised to surprise her on Valentines day.
Before Valentines day, I had actually scoped my folks at home that I would need to buy some materials in school and they had sent in some cash into my account. But in those days, there was only one ATM Machine in the whole of Abeokuta, and it was so far away from my school. So around 8a.m. I left for the bank and unfortunately the queue was so long, you would think a certain governor was sharing rice at the ATM point. I didn’t leave bank until 11a.m. and it took me another 1 hour to get home. And it got so bad my phone had switched off due to low battery.
She was already boiling when I got home and was like where had I been since. How could I just leave her here for that long. She had been so hungry and I never even cared to buy her anything. I knew mine had set at that moment when she just began to pack her bags and wanted to leave.
‘ Misimi, why are you doing this, at least you would let me explain ‘ I said with a sad, apologetic voice.
‘ Explain to my foot, are you telling there was no eatery over where you were coming from? ‘
I just stood there and was looking like a dunce. I promised to go back and get her something, but she just insisted that she was going. I tried to apologize, I can’t remember if I prostrated self. But she eventually succumbed and calmed down. With immediate alacrity, I dashed off to the nearest eatery and that was what eventually sealed off the break up. Why didn’t I meet a prophet along the way on that day to have admonished me to go back home?
On getting to the eatery, they said they had not gotten set for the day. And the only thing they had was Popcorn and Schweppes. Oh, how foolish I was to have ordered that. I took it home and the moment she saw that, she just began to cry uncontrollably.
watchout for the grand finale…
